Book Review
The Bookshelf Book Review for OctoberFifty Fifty by Steve Cavanagh- If you enjoy fast paced, legal, crime thrillers then Steve Cavanagh novels are for you! For those of you already addicted, Cavanagh’s maverick lawyer Eddie Flynn will already be a firm favourite.
In the past he was a con artist, but under the influence of his friend and mentor highly respected Law Court Judge Harry Ford, he has managed to turn his life around and is now a successful defence lawyer, always ready to defend the underdog. Flynn’s personal life is a mess, and he is scared to allow anyone to become close to him for their own safety.
Fifty Fifty is Cavanagh’s sixth Eddie Flynn novel and a true shocker which will keep you guessing right until its dramatic conclusion.
On an October night New York City 911 Dispatchers receive 2 emergency calls from the same address within seconds of each other, both reporting a murder. The problem is the calls are from 2 sisters reporting the murder of their father, each accusing the other sister of the crime!
The murder victim is former NYC Mayor Frank Avellino, and his daughters are Alexandra; - on the surface the perfect daughter and a strong successful businesswoman and socialite and Sofia; -troubled, insecure with mental health issues and a proclivity for self-harming. Its obvious who did it, isn’t it?...... No! Both have experienced traumatic childhoods and have been starved of affection. Oh! And they hate each other and don’t speak!
Both stand accused of murder and are to go on joint trial before a jury.
Flynn is chosen to defend Sofia who he is convinced is innocent and vulnerable. As the truth of the sisters’ family life is revealed, we are taken on a rollercoaster ride of twists and turns, which will raise the hairs on the back of your neck and keep you reading until you find out the truth. Set in the male dominated world of law, legal wheeler dealing and sexual harassment, we encounter strong female characters and experience their battle to survive and succeed against the odds. A fantastic read!
